“Gone Fishing” Character Animation

My goal for this exercise was to practice pacing and character acting with a more complicated scenario than I’ve tried animating before. I wanted to expand my skills beyond facial expressions alone to portray the personality of a character through their bodily actions alongside their expressions.

I ended up cutting my original rough idea in half since I adjusted the pacing and wanted to portray my character’s thoughts in the moment in a readable way. This was a fun little exercise for me that I plan on continuing and cleaning up!

Final rough animation of a shortened version of the original scene.
Time taken: around 5 hours

Full scene rough pass, with focus on general timing and main poses
Total time taken: around an hour and a half

Animated using Clip Studio Paint EX
